COVID-19: Letter from HVI President – April

Dear HVI Doctors and staff,

The disruption of the last 3 weeks brought incredible changes to our daily lives and a lot of financial difficulties on absolutely every single one of us, both personally and business. Humber Valley Imaging (HVI) has not been spared as our clinics overall volume dropped by 85-90%.

Managing though the new reality is a very difficult task. Following our letter of March 20, 2020, we continue to be deemed as an essential service on the Ontario Emergency list. Although we lost as mentioned up to 90% of our revenues, we aim to remain open and service the community with the few urgent services that we do daily.

These are very difficult times for all of us and at HVI we all feel a very difficult sense of separation from our regular routines. This is a challenge that we hope never to encounter again. To para-phrase the Queen in her public address: “We will be with our friends again, we will be with our families again, we will meet again”. This inspiresa lot of optimism: we will be with our colleagues again, we will meet again!

We continue to diligently screen all the patients and we appreciate all your input with detailed clinical information on all referral forms. We also took further physical precautions, such as building screens at all our front desks, providing additional clinic cleaning and disinfection, and tirelessly and vigilantly procuring PPE for both our staff and patients as all patients are given a surgical mask while in the clinic.

In these most challenging times, we remain thankful for your support of all the years that we’ve been working together.Our radiologists are available all day and can be reached to discuss any urgent patients. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, and of course we will be in contact with you if there are any significant changes to our service.

This will be the norm until a vaccine is developed, which we all know it is over a year away. Social distancing will continue to be part of our daily lives. One day though, we will all be back in our medical buildings and hugin the elevator when meeting in the morning, share a coffee in the parking lot at break, see and interact with all our patients the way we are accustomed to it, with care and empathy.
